TOPCOAT 177

TOPCOAT 177 is a nickel-based superalloy developed by Griekspoor specifically as an intermediate bond layer for use in the harshest chemical and high-temperature environments. Its primary purpose is to provide maximum corrosion resistance, ensuring a stable foundation for our “+” coatings: TOPCOAT+, TOPCOAT ULTRA+, TOPCOAT CCR+,TOPCOAT WCR+, and TOPCOAT 107+.

This UHCR (Ultra High Corrosion Resistant) layer has outstanding corrosion resistance in a range of severe environments and is excellent in reducing atmospheres, oxidizing conditions, and also has excellent resistance against crevice- and pitting corrosion. Furthermore, TOPCOAT 177 offers exceptional resistance to sulfuric and hydrochloric acids, to mixtures of the two, and to crevice and pitting in hot concentrated acid chloride solutions.

Although TOPCOAT 177is normally not applied as a standalone coating, it adds toughness, is easily finishable and has a hardness of approximately Hv 500–600 — qualities that support the performance of the top coating applied over it.

By combining extreme chemical resistance with high bond strength, TOPCOAT 177 ensures long-term reliability of the complete coating system in severe conditions. Although primarily used as a bond layer, TOPCOAT 177 can also be applied as a standalone top coating in specific cases, offering an economical alternative to Inconel 625 laser-clad coatings.

TOPCOAT 177 is designed for environments where corrosion is the dominant failure factor.
