TOPCOAT CCR+
Enhanced galvanic (nickel-)chromium replacement with superior corrosion and wear resistance.
TOPCOAT CCR+ is the upgraded version of our TOPCOAT CCR coating. It consists of an HVOF-applied TOPCOAT 177 UHCR nickel-based superalloy intermediate layer combined with a chromium carbide top layer. This combination provides substantially improved corrosion resistance and operational reliability while maintaining the same wear resistance and tribological behaviour as CCR.
The chromium carbide top layer behaves tribiologically equivalent to electrolytic(nickel-)chromium: surface roughness, lubrication, sliding properties and sealing performance remain identical. CCR+ also offers significantly better corrosion resistance than galvanic hard chrome, particularly in sodium chloride, acidic and alkaline environments. However, hydrochloric acid (HCl) environments must be avoided.
TOPCOAT CCR+ is also an excellent alternative in situations where the wear and corrosion resistance of WCR or WCR+ is desirable, but the coated rod may be exposed to occasional impact damage. Chromium carbide is more impact resistant than tungsten carbide, and if the top coating is damaged, the underlying TOPCOAT 177 layer continues to protect the substrate from corrosion.
CCR+ can be used as a direct replacement for galvanic (nickel-)chromium without requiring any construction or seal changes. It is designed to withstand severe chemical and marine environments, offering an economic optimum between corrosion resistance and wear resistance.
Further improve chemical and corrosion resistance
This coating is designed to withstand severe maritime environments where very good chemical and wear resistance is required. In very severe environments, increasing the intermediate thickness to approximately 200μm can further enhance corrosion resistance.
When more wear resistance is required or the rod is used in a Hydrochloric acid (HCl) environment,TOPCOAT WCR+ might be better suited.
Tailored smooth roughness between Ra 0,03 – 0,6μm
Because of the high density of the chromium carbide layer (porosity < 0.7%), CCR+ can be finished very smoothly, with roughness levels as low as Ra 0.03 μm. The roughness can be adjusted between Ra 0.03 μm and 0.6 μm depending on the seal design, ensuring optimal sealing performance, low friction, no leakage and no stick-slip.
