Our Work & Learn programme combines hands-on experience with personal development. You’ll learn the craft from experienced professionals who are passionate about sharing their knowledge and expertise.
They’ll introduce you to flame spraying, a process that uses heat to apply a protective coating to metal surfaces, making components more resistant to wear and corrosion.
Flame spraying is a highly specialised craft. Griekspoor Thermal Coatings is one of a select group of companies in Europe capable of applying coatings to piston rods with an accuracy of one hundredth of a millimetre. And there’s more: we develop our coatings in-house. You’ll work with innovative technologies and develop specialist skills you can be proud of.

Who are you?
- You’re currently studying at MBO, HBO or university level, have recently graduated, or already have a few years of work experience.

WORK & LEARN PROGRAMME
In our Work & Learn programme, you’ll quickly build your technical skills. You’ll learn on the job from experienced colleagues who are happy to share their knowledge. You’ll get the support and freedom you need to grow. We’ll also encourage you to think outside the box, because that’s often how the best ideas come to life. You might surprise yourself!
You’ll also learn how important precision is in our work. When we coat a piston rod, the final size has to be accurate to within 0.1 mm. That may sound like a tiny difference, especially on a rod that is 23 metres long and 500 mm in diameter. But in our work, it can make a huge difference. Imagine a piston rod failing on an offshore installation in the Middle East. Even a small mistake can have major consequences and lead to high costs.
That’s why we always aim for the highest quality. You’re not just working with metal. Your work helps keep important industrial equipment reliable and performing well, all over the world.
WORK & LEARN PROGRAMME
What you will learn in our Work & Learn programme
- The basics of flame spraying and the challenges that come with it.
- How to use our own equipment and work safely with heavy parts.
- How to check surface roughness and measure small and large cylinder rods.
- How to prepare cylinder rods for production.
- How to improve your skills in drilling, milling and other machining work in our workshop.
- You learn that together we make the difference for clients such as: Boskalis, Tata Steel, Liebherr and Montan.

Who we are
Griekspoor Thermal Coatings has been active in the flame spraying market for forty years

We coat piston rods for hydraulic cylinders. We are one of the few companies in Europe that can apply coatings with an accuracy of 0.01 mm. We work with piston rods of all sizes, from the size of a pen to 23 metres long and weighing 20 tonnes.
We develop our own coatings. Our best-known coating is TOPCOAT 107+. We work for customers all over the world. Around 70% of our coatings are used outside the Netherlands in onshore and offshore projects.
Lars: “TOPCOAT 107+ has become a standard in the offshore industry, for example in offshore wind farms. Dredging companies use hydraulic cylinders on their ships, and many of these cylinders have our TOPCOAT 107+ coating.”
We are a small and enthusiastic team based in Nieuw-Vennep. From here, we work for customers such as Boskalis, Tata Steel, Liebherr, HS.MARINE and Montanhydraulik.
