TOPCOAT CCR+ protects excavator hydraulic cylinders from abrasion, corrosion, and heavy loads

Griekspoor Thermal Coatings has successfully coated the hydraulic piston rods of a 90-tonne crawler excavator from one of the world’s leading equipment manufacturers with TOPCOAT CCR+, providing superior protection for extreme working conditions.

The challenge

This heavy-duty machine operates in some of the most demanding environments, from large-scale construction sites to quarry operations. Its hydraulic cylinders are constantly exposed to abrasive dust, heavy vibration, high-impact loads, and corrosive substances. Without proper protection, these conditions can quickly lead to corrosion, pitting, and premature wear.

The solution

With TOPCOAT CCR+, the hydraulic rods now benefit from wear and sliding properties comparable to electrolytic (nickel-)chromium coatings, combined with superior resistance to corrosion in saline, acidic, and alkaline environments. Its impact resistance also exceeds that of tungsten carbide coatings, reducing the risk of damage under heavy-duty operation.

The completed coating ensures these hydraulic rods are fully prepared to withstand extreme conditions, extending service life, minimizing downtime, and keeping this powerhouse machine performing at its peak.
