Griekspoor Thermal Coatings has successfully completed coating a batch of shock absorber rods for one of the world’s leading mining truck manufacturers.
The challenge
These rods are critical components of the hydraulic shock absorbers used in high-capacity mining trucks, which operate under some of the harshest conditions globally. Over the past two years, we have produced around 200 batches for this partner. This long-term engagement has allowed us to continuously refine our processes, resulting in optimized serial production and consistent component performance.
The solution
The rods were coated with our TOPCOAT CCR+, a highly advanced chromium carbide coating. TOPCOAT CCR+ provides wear and sliding properties comparable to electrolytic (nickel-)chromium coatings, while offering significantly enhanced corrosion resistance in saline, acidic, and alkaline environments. This makes it an excellent hard chrome replacement for demanding applications. In addition, TOPCOAT CCR+ delivers superior impact resistance compared to tungsten carbide coatings, reducing the risk of damage during heavy-duty operation. Even in the rare case of impact damage, the underlying TOPCOAT 177 layer continues to protect against corrosion.
Modern mining trucks combine lightweight construction with extreme payload capacities and powerful engines, requiring components that deliver maximum reliability and longevity. Our advanced coating ensures these shock absorber rods remain protected against abrasion, corrosion, and thermal stress, supporting uninterrupted operation in extreme environments.
