During a planned five-year maintenance shutdown, we serviced a guide tube (Ø 1100 mm × length 3000 mm) used in a zirconium oxide (ZrO₂) milling process for a customer. The tube had been protected with our TOPCOAT 107+ coating, applied five years earlier to improve wear resistance.
The challenge
Zirconium oxide is an extremely hard, wear-resistant ceramic widely used in dentistry, precision engineering, and grinding applications. Its abrasive nature leads to severe wear on process components over time, creating high maintenance demands.
The solution
After five years of operation, the TOPCOAT 107+ layer was still in excellent condition, requiring only standard polishing before returning to service. This demonstrates how the right coating significantly extends component lifetime, reduces maintenance needs, and supports CO₂ savings.
